From January to November 2017, the population of Ukraine, excluding Crimea and the occupied areas of Donbass decreased by 181,5 thousand. According to the State statistics service of Ukraine.

According to the Agency, as of 1 December, the population was little more than 42.4 million citizens.

The state statistics service noted a significant excess of deaths of Ukrainians on the number of newborns: 100 to 64.

In January 2017 the State employment service reported that according to official figures, work abroad 5 million Ukrainians.

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Gennady Zubko called labor migration one of the biggest threats to the state after military aggression. “Official figures for the Ukrainians working abroad, we can roughly multiply by five, only in Poland employs more than a million… Believe, if the average salary will rise to 16 thousand UAH, it will give the opportunity to keep people in Ukraine”, – he said.

According to a survey conducted by the sociological group “Rating” in September, 35% of Ukrainian citizens would like to leave for permanent residence abroad. Among the main reasons – the desire to improve living conditions and provide a better future for their children, as well as the lack of decent work in Ukraine.
