In the far East launched the largest in the modern history of Russia military exercises “Vostok-2018”. This is stated in the message of Department of information and mass communications of the Ministry of defense.

The maneuvers will be unprecedented in the number of engaged troops. All to them will involve 300 thousand troops, more than 1 thousand of aircraft — planes, helicopters and UAV, 80 vehicles and up to 36 thousand tanks and armored personnel carriers. A similar scale was achieved during the maneuvers for the last time 37 years ago — on exercises “West-81” .

“The main objectives of the maneuvers are — to check the level of preparedness of the military authorities in planning and conducting the regrouping of troops (forces) at large distances, the interaction between land groups and forces of the Navy, getting commanders, commanders and staffs practice and improve their skills in the management of troops (forces) in the course of preparing and conducting military actions”, — is spoken in the message of the Ministry of defense.

The exercise will take place in two stages. The first of them, the army would provide for the deployment of troops in the far East and the consolidation of forces of the Navy. The second stage involves testing of command and control in terms of defensive and offensive actions. The active phase of the maneuvers “Vostok-2018” will take place from 11 to 17 September.

In the exercises in addition to the Russian troops will take part and units of the Chinese army. On the range Tsugol in the TRANS will be a group of 3.5 thousand soldiers of the National liberation army of China.

The exercises are held against passing in Vladivostok, Eastern economic forum (WEF), which take part in foreign policy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Despite this, the press Secretary of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov said earlier that the presence of foreign leaders at the exercises “Vostok-2018” together with Vladimir Putin is not planned.
