China is buying Iranian oil despite US sanctions

Imports in July remained almost half that of the previous year, despite the sanctions.

China last month bought, according to various estimates, from 4.4 to 11 million barrels of Iranian oil, Reuters reported, citing data from companies that track the movement of tankers.

Thus, Beijing has ignored Washington announced the ban on the purchase of raw materials from Tehran.

“The upper limit of this range would mean that imports in July remained almost half that of the previous year, despite the sanctions”, – stated in the message.

Recall that the U.S. last year came from a deal with Iran on its nuclear program and re-imposed sanctions against Tehran, including secondary, that is, in relation to other countries doing business with Iran.

While China, India, Italy, Greece, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Turkey until may 2, 2019 was the exception, that is, to this date, Washington has not imposed sanctions against them for buying certain amounts of Iranian oil. However, the US government did not renew these exceptions.
