Weather conditions allowed to stop the selection of gas from underground storage facilities and start a season of gas injection in March, while last year the fix began in April.

As at 7 April in the underground gas storages (UGS) of Ukraine were more than 15.8 billion cubic meters of gas. It’s almost 45% more than a year ago and a record amount over the past 30 years. About it reports a press-service of Naftogaz on Friday, April 10.

It is noted that the closest to these volumes of gas reserves in underground storage was approaching in a heating season of 2008-2009. Then stocks was 15.4 billion cubic meters of gas.

Since the beginning of the heating season 2019-2020 Ukraine used of 5.98 billion cubic meters of underground storage facilities. Weather conditions allowed to stop the selection of gas from underground storage facilities and start a season of gas injection in March, while in 2019, the fix began in April.

“We have created significant reserves of natural gas in storage in case of stop transit in 2020. This strengthened the negotiating position of Ukraine in negotiations on a new contract for transit and helped to achieve favorable conditions for Ukraine. Today we are faced with a new challenge for energy stability, but significant reserves of gas in underground storage facilities to help us get through this crisis”, – said the head of Board of Naftogaz Andrey Kobelev.

Previously, the General Director of the Operator GTS of Ukraine Sergey Makogon said that the season is injection into underground storage facilities has already begun for the next season Ukraine needs to pump 2-3 billion cubic meters.
