The European Union called on Russia to release Ukrainian film Director Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners. On 21 August said the head of the EU delegation in Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli. The appeal published on the website of the delegation on Twitter.

“100 days of hunger strike in prison, the state of health Oleg Sentsov is deteriorating rapidly. EU urges Russia to immediately release him and all illegally detained Ukrainian citizens in Russia and on the Crimean Peninsula”, – stated in the message.

Sentsov was sentenced in Russia to 20 years in prison on 25 August 2015. A Russian court found him guilty of creating in the Crimea of the terrorist community and guide them, attempted purchase of explosive devices and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, two terrorist acts and the preparation of another attack. Sentsov pleaded not guilty.

May 14, 2018, the Director announced an indefinite hunger strike demanding the release of Ukrainian political prisoners 64. Itself in this list it is not included.

August 7, the Ukrainian lawyer Dmitry Dinze said that the condition of Sentsov has deteriorated: he has anemia and heart problems. The lawyer added that the Director opposes the transfer to a civilian hospital, because the “head of the resuscitation Department aggressively it applies probably only to hurt him.” According to Dinze, Sentsov now third, protracted crisis, and the fourth is accompanied by organ failure.

August 21st, the 100th day of hunger strike after activists held a rally near the Russian Embassy in Kiev. Also the action is planned in London.
