The gas Directive of the European Union, as amended will apply to the Russian gas pipeline bypassing Ukraine “Nord stream-2”.

This was stated by Director General of the Directorate General of the European Commission on energy Dominique Ristori, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”. According to him, the approved Directive will very quickly take effect.

“The Directive will come into force quickly, in any case, prior to the “Nord stream-2″. That is, this Directive will apply to this project,” said a senior European official on Monday at a press conference in Brussels after the EU Council meeting on energy. During the meeting, the EU Ministers were informed about the preparation of the final approval of the Directive.

He said that many EU States were in favour that the application of this Directive was carried out immediately after the publication and consideration of all amendments.

According to Ristori, this is very important as it guarantees the rapid adaptation of the Directive to the national legislation of EU countries.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, February 8, it became known that Paris and Berlin have produced a compromise version of the amendments to the Gas Directive, which will allow them to approve, but will leave Berlin opportunities for the implementation of the project “Northern stream-2”.

On 13 February, the EU Council and the European Parliament approved a tightening of the Gas Directive of the European Union on the basis of a significantly modified and softened the draft amendments developed by Germany and France. From them depends the fate of the Russian gas pipeline to bypass Ukraine.

On 21 February, the Council of the European Union approved amendments to the Gas Directive, which concern the “Nord stream-2”. We are talking about compromise amendments providing stricter requirements for the new project of the Russian gas monopolist “Gazprom”.
