USA 1 June imposed duties on steel imports (25%) and aluminium (10%) from Canada, Mexico and EU countries

Canada has a unified position against the American duties on aluminium and steel with European partners, Japan and Mexico. This was stated by the head of the canadian Ministry of foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland.

“The position of our European partners and Japan coincide with ours. We are in close coordination with the EU and Mexico on the list of responses. Japan and the EU met with us to discuss it. We have sent a complaint to the world trade organization,” said Freeland reporters.

Recall that the leaders of the group of seven summit in Canada agreed on a joint communiqué. However, later the President of the United States Donald trump said that he refused to endorse that statement, because he was dissatisfied with the statements of the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. In relations between countries, tensions arose because of the intent of Washington to revise the terms of mutual trade.
