The President congratulated Austria with new responsibilities and told what to expect from Vienna

Austria today has the presidency of the Council of the European Union, and congratulated the country the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. About this he wrote on his page in Facebook.

“I welcome the beginning of the Austrian presidency of the EU Council. In Ukraine appreciate the high level of our partnership in ensuring the security of Europe. Look forward to a constructive and effective contribution to Vienna to promote an ambitious agenda of relations between Ukraine and the EU”, – stated in the message.

Poroshenko also expressed hope that the solidarity of Europe and Ukraine to counter Russia’s continued aggression and the upholding of European values.

Note that the chairmanship is transferred to the countries every six months. So, the Austrians, these duties were transferred to Bulgaria, which presided over the EU Council from 1 January.
