The Committee to protect journalists (CPJ) on may 29, also called on the Ukrainian authorities to conduct a full murder investigation, a statement published on the organization’s website.

“The Committee to protect journalists condemns the murder of Kiev known Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko, who immigrated to Ukraine after he and his family received many threats,” the report says.

As stated by the program coordinator, CPJ Europe and Central Asia Nina Ognianova, the Committee urges the Ukrainian authorities to “thoroughly, effectively and independently to investigate the murder of Arkady Babchenko and find all those responsible for this brutal crime.”

“Babchenko was known for its critical journalism, and the government needs to consider his murder as an attack on press freedom”, she added.

In CPJ said that over the past two years in Ukraine killed at least one journalist in connection with his work. “A well-known journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed in Kiev on 20 July 2016, the explosive device exploded under his car… no One was convicted of a crime,” said the CPJ.
