Brussels has approved a ban of a number of disposable products made of plastic. European Commission proposals were published on Monday, may 28.

In particular, the ban will affect disposable tableware, Cutlery, straws-straws for drinks, cotton swabs and plastic ties for balloons. They will be replaced by more environment ally friendly alternatives. The use of disposable plastic bags and packages, which offer supermarkets, it is also planned to significantly limit.

Deputy Chairman of the European Commission Frans Timmermans noted the importance of the problem of plastic waste. So, for plastic products accounted for more than 80 percent of debris in the world ocean, the document says. According to Timmermans, the Europeans “need to work together to solve the problem.”

According to the Commission, the proposed measures will have a positive impact on the environment. In particular, the expected reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of 3.4 million tons. In addition, the proposals will avoid damage to the environment, which by 2030 could reach 22 billion euros.

In the future European Commission proposals must be submitted for approval to EU member States and the European Parliament. For their approval and adoption may take several years.
