Winnick appointed Deputy chief of the General staff, Canada

Deputy chief of the General staff of national defence of Canada appointed an ethnic Ukrainian, Lieutenant-General of the canadian army Paul winnick. On 16 July, reported the press service of the Ministry of national defence of Canada.

In the past two years winnick commanded the land forces. Now they were headed by Lieutenant General Jean-Marc Lanthier. Winnick also headed the military intelligence service of the country.

The ceremony of inauguration Lanier was held on Parliament hill in Ottawa. It was attended by the head of the General staff of Canada, Jonathan Vance.

“I would like to congratulate Lieutenant-General winnik with his new role and thank him for his commitment and strong leadership by the canadian army during the last two years”, – quotes the press service of the Ministry of defense Vance.

“Under the leadership of Lieutenant-General winnick canadian army was ready to defend the interests of Canadians in the country and abroad. I applaud his steadfast commitment to his soldiers and Canada”, – said the Minister of defense of Canada harjit Sajjan.

The Agency “UKRINFORM” notes that in recent years, winnick made several trips to Ukraine, having been, in particular, in the village Pozdymyr in Lviv region, where was born his ancestors.
