Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin, despite the defeat in the battle with Briton Anthony Joshua remains an outstanding athlete who has reached great heights, but he is unlikely to continue his career, said Russian promoter Vladimir Hryunov. On Saturday at the London stadium “Wembley” Joshua in the seventh round knocked out Povetkin and defended the titles WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavy weight.
“I think the fight, especially in the beginning, was very competitive. And then began to affect the difference in age and size. But let’s look at the entire career of Alexander Povetkin and what he has done in the sport. Alexander – the man who won in Boxing everything is possible, for almost 20 years he was a motivator to play sports and Boxing, was a real Russian hero”, – said Hryunov.
“But what happened yesterday should be treated as sport result – unfortunately, not in favor of Sasha. For me it is also a tragedy, I did not sleep all night, worried. But we can be proud of Alexander Povetkin, he had a great career. I think he will find something to do, if you still decide to retire. I think there is no reason to continue it. He reached the top. He is popular and respected man in the country”, – said Hryunov.
Interestingly, after the fight , Joshua went to the locker room Povetkin and thanked him for a good fight. “Good Luck, Povetkin. All the best for the future,” wrote Joshua in his Twitter.
