“South stream” was “killed” by the EU Commission did not include Ukraine, said the foreign Minister of Hungary

Next year for the first time in the history of the EU will be the year when the number of member countries will be reduced – the UK will leave the ranks of the EU. Therefore, the EU should return to a policy of expansion. This was during the 28th Economic forum in Polish Krynica-zdrój the Minister of foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Siyyarto.

According to him, the EU is facing historical challenges.

“I can think of Brexit, terrorism, the war in Ukraine. We are now in Poland, which was attacked by European institutions and Hungary. And the reason we “attack”, lies in Western Europe. The reasons why “attack” Poland, are also present in Western Europe. This is double standards, as “Nord stream – 2”, which the European Commission had no problems. But South stream was “killed” by the European Commission, because they said that the project does not include Ukraine. And when the “Nord stream – 2″ does not include Ukraine, but it is in the interests of others (the EU – Ed.) then it is no problem. Therefore, such double standards must not be present in the European decision-making system”, – said péter Szijjártó.

Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister of Poland Peter Hlinsko on the discussion panel “Europe of common values and Europe of common interests?” was also called migration and energy issues.

According to Szijjártó, the European Union should not reject the possibility of competition between countries within the EU.

“Next year will be the first time in the history of the European Union by year when the number of member countries will be reduced. This never happened before. It’s bad. Prior to that, the EU is expanding all the time, and we need to return to these times and to expand the number of member countries. Further EU enlargement is an opportunity to build a strong and competitive Europe in the future”, – concluded the Minister of foreign Affairs of Hungary.

Recall, Ukraine opposes the construction of “Nord stream – 2”, calling it politically motivated. Kyiv expects that if the legislation of the European Union in the energy sector will be distributed to the project “Northern stream – 2”, it will suffer the same fate as “frozen” in December 2014 “South stream”.

In addition, Kiev suggested the EU to create a consortium with the involvement of European companies for the more efficient management of the existing transportation route through Ukraine.

However, Germany believes the project “Northern stream – 2” economic. However, Germany has put forward Russia the condition of starting the “Nord stream – 2”: according to the government of Angela Merkel, the transit of gas via Ukraine still must be maintained.

As previously stated the official representative of the Federal government Steffen Seibert , Ukraine should modernize its gas transportation system (GTS) to create conditions for long-term gas transit.
