Belarus is ready to strengthen its role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, if they reached the relevant agreement between the Ukrainian and Russian presidents. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with news Agency “Anadolu”. Transcript published on April 15 on the website of the Belarusian President.
Lukashenko noted that Ukraine are still dying “are no strangers for Belarusians people.” The President of Belarus stressed that he had discussed these issues at a recent meeting with the special representative of the Organization for security and cooperation in Europe tripartite liaison group on settlement of the conflict in the Donbas Martin Sidikom.
“Can be followed on my part, but seeing how sluggish this process goes, no good process as not implemented the Minsk agreements that were reached, I spoke frankly: if the two agree of the President of Russia and Ukraine, [Vladimir] Putin and [Petro] Poroshenko, and will see the strengthening of the role of Belarus there (because we are family, we three sisters: Russia, Belarus and Ukraine), we are ready to fulfill this role. But to impose peacekeepers to impose on intermediaries – we never do go. To us it is not something that is not necessary, we do not face,” – said Lukashenko.
He added that Belarus will sing the role she plays.
“Because we know as soon as I start to say something about Ukraine, I begin to wipe his feet in Russia, in Ukraine. Someone doesn’t like something. That’s why I said you gentlemen agree, we will see in this agreement – we will try to fulfill the role we play. One goal – peace and stability in the region of Donbass and Lugansk and all Ukraine”, – said Lukashenko.
He said that the conflict in Ukraine is still having a “dangerous influence” in Belarus.
“A lot of people who move across the border with weapons, some Belarusians went and did some fighting there, smelled the blood is also a very dangerous trend. What can I say: the country is situated near us, so I want it or not, wants the people of Belarus it or not, I and the Belarusian people involved in this conflict. We have been doing to ensure that there was peace, because dying old men, women, children, those who did not manage to escape from there and remained there, and perhaps nowhere to run away, and they die. And it’s not alien to us humans. The war is literally beyond our fence. So I agreed to the trilateral contact group, and we are now struggling to support its work and to ensure the operation,” – said Lukashenko.
The President of Belarus noted that Sidik directly told him: “you do Not have no problem, just thank you for this work”.
In 2014, immediately after the annexation of Crimea, in Eastern Ukraine, Russia has begun armed aggression. Fighting underway between Ukraine’s Armed forces on the one hand, and the Russian army and Russian-backed militants, who control part of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on the other. Officially, Russia does not recognize its invasion of Ukraine, despite Ukraine presented the facts and evidence.
February 12, 2015 in Minsk the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France Petro Poroshenko, Vladimir Putin, Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel during 17-hour talks agreed on two documents on the conflict settlement in the Donbas: a Declaration on the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the Complex of measures to implement the Minsk agreements. They included the cessation of hostilities in the Donbass, the withdrawal of illegal armed groups from the region, creation of conditions for holding elections in local authorities, etc. Until the Minsk agreements are not fulfilled.
