Klimkin: There are different mechanisms that allow you to calculate who will receive the Russian passport

The Ukrainian authorities there is a preliminary plan for dealing with the Russian certification of Donbass. About it in interview to the edition LB.ua published may 21, Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.

“A passport is a fundamental threat to the national security, which is created in the future: the opportunity to intervene in Ukrainian Affairs in the military (and not only) manner in almost any time. You can create any provocation and use it for direct military intervention. Plus it’s an additional filter for the residents of the occupied territories”, – said Klimkin.

He noted that there are different mechanisms to combat this phenomenon.

“Prepared this preliminary plan, we won’t announce, but we will implement. There are different mechanisms that allow, first, to figure out who will receive (and how) these Russian passports. And secondly, we offer a range of legal acts regarding liability for dual citizenship with Russia. Now our lawyers write them and then we will advance,” – said the head of the Ukrainian foreign Ministry.

April 24, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree, which simplifies obtaining Russian citizenship by residents of the occupied territories of Donbass.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin urged residents ORDA to refrain from obtaining Russian citizenship. The foreign Ministry of Ukraine decree “null and void” and does not change the identity of the inhabitants of the occupied Russian territories of Donbass to the Ukrainian citizenship.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the decree on the issuance of passports indicates the intention of the Federation to get rid of the Minsk agreements. He urged international partners of Ukraine “to prevent the worst-case scenario” and to condemn the actions of the Russian authorities and to strengthen sanctions.

The team elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that the decision to issue passports to residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions under the simplified procedure, Russia has recognized its responsibility as a country-occupier.

The U.S. state Department condemned the decision by Putin. “Russia is using these extremely provocative actions heightens the attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”, – reads the statement of the state Department.
