The speaker of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin will consider the initiative to hold presidential elections on March 18, 2018 – the anniversary of the illegal “referendum” about accession of the Crimea to Russia. On it informs Agency “Interfax”.
Sands noted that at the moment, “any position on this score has not been established”.
The speaker of the Kremlin assured that in the short term “clarity” in this issue will appear.
March 3 for consideration by the state Duma introduced a bill which provides for amendments to the Federal law “About presidential elections of the Russian Federation”. Among the amendments provide for the possibility of postponing the presidential elections on March 18. The initiative was supported by the speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.
According to the current law on presidential elections, voting takes place on the second Sunday of the month in which the vote was taken on the previous presidential elections. In 2018 elections should be held on March 11.
Russia annexed the Crimea and Sevastopol in March 2014. On March 16 was held the illegal referendum, March 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin by his decree approved the “will” of Crimeans recognized the independence of the Peninsula. On 18 March, the head of the Russian state and the unrecognized Crimean authorities signed the agreement on joining of Crimea to Russia.
