Near the reserve Sophia of Kyiv, where the failures and explore the ancient cave, the archaeologists found a pendant lead seal for fastening documents, probably of the epoch of Yaroslav the Wise and a bronze pin of the tenth century, as well as trade seal XV-XVI centuries. On Thursday, September 27, said senior researcher of the National reserve Sophia of Kyiv, Vladimir Savitsky, UKRINFORM reported.

The scientist said that the excavation near the reserve have been conducted for three months. We are talking about the gap depth of four meters and a diameter of about three meters, which was formed on the territory of St. Sophia in April of this year.

“From the archives we know that there was a monastery cellar in about the 17th century… In 2000 years this place was covered with sand and, in fact, we choose the sand and explore the cultural layers around this abyss. These discoveries of these cultural layers, beginning with the 10th century. There are finds from different periods, the oldest and perhaps the most interesting was a bronze pin,” said Sawicki.

Regarding suspension of printing, according to the scientist, archeologists believe was its belonging to Prince Yaroslav the Wise because of the image on its obverse the patron Saint of Prince St. George. But after comparison with other seals which had characteristic inscriptions, archaeologists have questioned that version.

“We still have not found the exact equivalents. On the other side of the seal has the image of a blossoming cross which indicates that it could belong to a spiritual person. We also know that St. George was the patron of Yury Dolgoruky, so it might be a seal or someone from its service. Therefore, we are hesitant,” said the scientist.

In addition, he noted that among the important finds interesting is also blank for the manufacture of such seals, as it gives reason to believe that such suspension of printing for binding documents could make on the territory of Sofia Kiev.
