Russia has no capabilities to complete overhaul of the aircraft carrier next year.
In the future the only Russian aircraft carrier “Admiral Kuznetsov” “is likely to be a smooth sail, towed by tug”, writes in The National Interest columnist Caleb Larson, reports lenta.ru.
“Non-nuclear aircraft carrier (technically classified as a heavy aircraft carrier to conduct legal passage through the Turkish Straits) has the reputation of being very unreliable. Part of the problem in steam turbines and boilers [carrier],” says the author.
The cause of the failure of the “Admiral Kuznetsov” observer sees in the original design and coincidence, which gave the ship a bad name. Larson is skeptical about the ability of Russia to complete overhaul of the propulsion system of an aircraft carrier in 2021.
In December, 2019 in the American magazine the National Interest called the only Russian aircraft carrier “Admiral Kuznetsov” and other Soviet cruisers project 1143 “Merlin”, “just a piece of rust”.
