On 1 July, i.e. the first Sunday of the month is celebrated the Day of naval forces of Armed forces of Ukraine.

Professional holiday Navy APU was first installed in 1996. Its date of celebration changed several times, and in 2012 coincided with the day of Navy of Russia. With the beginning of Russian aggression and the loss of a sister in the battle, the patriots of Ukraine, who are in new locations revived the Navy and began the eradication of the Imperial and the Soviet traditions, could not celebrate their professional holiday of the Russian fleet – the aggressor country. The appeal of the commander of the Military Council and the personnel of the Navy, the President of Petro Poroshenko decree of June 12, 2015 No. 335 / 2015 established in Ukraine the Day of naval forces of Armed forces of Ukraine, celebrated annually on the first Sunday of July.

The selected date of celebration is not tied to a particular historical fact, it combines the important events of the beginning of the summer, which had significant importance for the development of Ukraine as a sea power and influencing the process of national state. The main ones are:

  • spring – summer 907 years – sea campaign and the victory of the Kievan Prince Oleg at Constantinople;
  • spring – summer 1616 – sea campaign and the victory flotilla Cossack Hetman Petro Sahaidachny under Kafa, Sinop and Trabzon;
  • in July 1917, the first output of the warships in the sea patrol under the Ukrainian flag made destroyer “Enviable”.
  • July 15, 1918 was declared to be the law about uniforms for the Ukrainian fleet;
  • 16-18 July 1918 approved of the naval flag of the Ukrainian state Navy, which became the basis of modern naval flag of the armed forces of Ukraine;
  • in July 1918 in Odessa was created the brigade of minesweepers – the first permanent connection of the Navy of the Ukrainian state;
  • spring – early summer 1992 – adoption of the military oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people by the crews of the ships, the personnel of the coastal military units of the black sea fleet, which further developed the Navy APU, raising the patrol ship SKR-112 Ukrainian flag and a transfer to Odessa;
  • July 1, 1993 – creation of the 1st separate marine battalion, the beginning of the revival of the modern marine corps of Ukraine;
  • July 4, 1993 was solemnly raised the naval flag of Ukraine frigate “Hetman Sahaidachny”.
  • 1 July 1996 – establishment of the southern sea area (2003 – South naval base);
  • July – August 1996 – the first tactical exercises of the naval forces of Ukraine under the flag of the Supreme Commander of the Armed forces of Ukraine – President of Ukraine.
  • 20 June 2006 – adoption of the modern naval flag APU.

In points-based forces, the areas of use of troops of naval forces of Armed forces of Ukraine, this day has become a truly national holiday, which brought together sailors, Navy veterans, volunteers, and all the Patriotic forces.

We will remind, earlier Ukraine had intended to buy abroad preowned Navy ships, said the commander of Ukrainian Navy Vice-Admiral Igor Voronchenko. Another concept of the Ministry of defense until 2020 to launch up to 30 new ships and boats “mosquito fleet”.
