Philip Morris has invested $ 7.2 billion U.S. in research of products with low risk in the long term to completely abandon the production of traditional cigarettes. This was stated by the head of Department for science of the company Philip Morris Ukraine Tatiana Vlasiuk.

“We believe that the future lies in innovative solutions. Moreover, we actively invest in this belief. We opened our research and development (R&D) centre in Switzerland in 2009, and now employs more than 400 professionals: scientists, engineers and technicians. They all participate in the creation and assessment of products with reduced risk and achieved amazing results,” she said.

Wlasiuk stressed that only the construction and equipment R&D center cost the company $ 650 million US.

“In research invested 7.2 billion U.S. dollars, and investments continue. Thanks to the efforts of scientists, we managed to extend the range of reduced-risk products up to 4 platforms including heating tobacco IQOS” she said, adding that today Philip Morris is one of the largest patent applicants in the EU.

According to who estimates, today the number of smokers in the world approaching 1 billion the Number of smokers in Ukraine at Philip Morris estimated at 7.2 million people. According to Wlasiuk, the mission of Philip Morris to completely replace cigarettes with reduced-risk products.

Philip Morris International – one of the largest world manufacturers of tobacco products. Cigarette produces more than 50 factories and sells them in over 180 countries. In Ukraine the company manufactures products at a factory in Kharkiv region.

In 2016 Ukraine became the seventh market in which Philip Morris has launched IQOS.
