During the first in the Donbas anti-terrorist operation (ATO), and then operations of the joint forces (OOS) killed 51 serviceman of the naval forces (naval forces) of Ukraine. About it informs the Council of national security and defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine in day of the Navy (celebrated July 1) on behalf of NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov.

“During carrying out of ATO/OOS, doing the job, killing 51 military from the Navy, 488 wounded sailors. State decorations awarded 498, awards of the Ministry of defense of Ukraine – 1515, staff – 1385 sailors,” – said in the message.

After the annexation of Crimea in spring 2014, the headquarters of the Ukrainian Navy was moved from Sevastopol to Odessa. Prior to the Russian invasion of the Ukrainian Navy were about 15 thousand military.

The armed conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts between the Ukrainian army and Pro-Russian rebels began in April 2014.
