It is designed to help the elderly.
Experts in artificial intelligence from Edinburgh developed the world’s first robot that can simultaneously communicate with more than one patient writes “Around the world”.
A priori, this robot is designed to help the elderly, said Oliver lemon, a Professor at the University of Heriot-watt. But one day, probably it can be used to combat viruses, such as the current coronavirus.
In the future, says the Professor, would become more realistic picture when you enter the hall and meet you out a robot who wants to help you.
It is worth noting that robots are already working in some hospitals. But mostly, their tasks are limited to the movement of materials such as case histories.
As for the new doctor-robot, it will work with multiple people in more difficult situations.
According to Professor lemon, the robot will be able to determine how many people stay in the premises and decide whether the patient is anxious, if he was waiting for a long time.
He will be able to recognize in the conversation of several people of their social roles: parent, guardian, doctor, nurse.
According to Professor lemon, talkative robots are beneficial for health as they reduce stress, alleviate loneliness, improve mood.
Social robots is of particular interest for older people because they really need companionship.
Also these robots will help to improve the relationship between patients and hospital professionals.
A new project called “Socially important robots in geriatric health care” (SPRING).
Robotic revolution in healthcare and not only
The creation of so-called socially assistive robots (SAR) – this is the first project announced by the National robotarium.
The building of this world-leading centre of robotics and artificial intelligence should be opened in the campus of the University of Heriot-watt in 2021.
Here will be held the most promising research in the field dialog box, AI, computer vision, machine learning and human interaction with the robot, analysis of human behavior and sensorimotor control of the robot.
Other key areas of research of the National robotarium – energy systems, energy production, help with domestic chores, agricultural technology, threat environment.
