Czech President Milos Zeman will not apologize for his statements on Crimea. He said this in an interview with Czech channel TV Barrandov, according to the edition Prague Daily Monitor.

According to Zeman, Ukraine cannot demand an official apology, as he expressed his personal opinion. But even if the Ukrainian side has asked him to apologize, he wouldn’t do it.

The Czech President reminded that earlier repeatedly called Russia’s takeover of Crimea illegal, but now, according to him, he can’t imagine any Russian government that would return the Peninsula.

10 Oct Zeman at a meeting of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) said he believes the annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea by Russia “completed.” “In my opinion, will be some compensation for Ukraine – or financial, or oil and gas,” – said the Czech leader. He also called for the lifting of sanctions of the European Union with the Russian Federation.

Commenting on the suggestion of Zeman, Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the Czech President has “not correct”.

The speaker of the foreign Ministry of the Czech Republic Michaela Lagronova said that the country’s position against sanctions remains unchanged, and the statement of Zeman compensation did not comment.

Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Oksana Syroid promised that the Ukrainian Parliament will react to the statement by the President of the Czech Republic next week.

Russia annexed Crimea after the illegal referendum on 16 March 2014. The annexation of Crimea by Russia is not recognised by Ukraine and most countries of the world.

Officially recognized the Crimea as part of Russia itself, the Russian Federation, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, and Syria Nicaragua.
