The record of the hryvnia and a new teachers ‘ salaries: what has changed for the Ukrainians for a week

Ukraine after the New year and Christmas returns to its usual working rhythm. This week, the first meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, which the government, inter alia, approved the increase in teachers ‘ salaries. “Woke up” after numerous weekends and the currency market, the hryvnia exchange rate has rolled down. 1. Record the Euro and the dollar

At the end of the week, January 12, the official Euro exchange rate in Ukraine broke the historical record – 34,18 UAH/EUR. The last high was 34,04 UAH and was recorded in February of 2015 during the peak of devaluation of the hryvnia. Euro-cash sold and all of 34,5 UAH.

However, the dollar too has already reached the marks 2015. 12 January the national Bank has established the rate of “green” at the level 28,44 UAH/USD. In exchange the American currency was sold at an average of 28.65 in UAH.

According to financial expert Boris Kushniruk, poslenovogodny fluctuations of the dollar have already become habitual, and they often use Ukrainian exporters, while still increasing artificial demand for the dollar. Economic expert Alexander Okhrimenko considers that further growth of the dollar will not be as rapid, and before the end of January, “green” will grow to as much as 29 UAH.

2. Increase salaries of teachers

On 11 January , the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine increased the salaries of teachers. According to the head of the government Volodymyr Groysman, Ukrainian teachers in 2018 will receive on the average on 1,5 thousand hryvnia more. The increase will take place in January.

“In January, the Ukrainian teacher will receive a salary increased by an average of 1,5 thousand hryvnias. … In fact, if the wage of teachers was equal to 5-7 thousand, this year the teacher’s salary will be equal to the average 6,5 – 8,5 thousand hryvnia per month,” – said Groisman.

The Prime Minister also noted that coaches in sports schools and sports, as well as teachers in the schools of art in Ukraine discriminated against in the part of the remuneration, and also this situation should be corrected. “I believe that we need to work with local authorities, and the government’s decision that we have to increase the salaries of teachers in the field of culture and sports”, – said Groisman.
