The President of Ukraine is ready to talk about a new referendum in Crimea after the Peninsula

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said he was ready to discuss a second referendum in the Crimea, but only after the return of the Peninsula to the Ukraine. The President noted that in the framework of the Constitution of Ukraine is ready to do everything for the Crimea. He said this at the session of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), responding to a question whether the support he can repeat the referendum on the Peninsula, reports “112 Ukraine”.

“I’m ready for everything to conform to the norms of the Ukrainian Constitution. In our Constitution there are some provisions about the referendum, both local and national. Territorial sovereignty is the prerogative of the national referendum, but before we begin to discuss the Crimea back under Ukraine’s sovereignty. Next, we are ready to hold any negotiations and to launch any democratic processes with the norms of Ukrainian current Constitution,” said the President.

Earlier, Poroshenko expressed strong disagreement with the statement that the question of supplies of Crimea can be considered closed. Thus he reacted to the proposal of the President of Czech Republic Milos Zeman to legitimize the annexation of Crimea that Russia’s payments to Ukraine.

We will remind, on March 16, 2014 in Crimea held a referendum in which the majority of citizens of the Peninsula voted for joining the Peninsula to Russia. Two days later signed a Treaty making Crimea and Sevastopol as subjects of Russia. Most Western countries did not recognize the referendum results. Ukraine considers Crimea as temporarily occupied territory.
