Hungary will seek the imposition of sanctions against Ukraine

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Hungary péter Szijjártó said that Budapest will continue to encourage the review of the education act, and if this does not happen, it would require European Union sanctions against Ukraine. He said this on Wednesday, October 11, transfers “Radio Freedom”.

The foreign Minister stressed that the fate of foreign Hungarians to Budapest is not negotiable. “We will fight to the last for review by Ukraine of the law. In this case, can be no compromise,” — said Siyyarto.

He called “a cynical tale” argument about the necessity of the adoption of the law due to ignorance of the Transcarpathian Hungarians in the Ukrainian language. According to him, there is nothing in common between learning a native (Hungarian) language and knowledge of the Ukrainian language. To improve the knowledge of Ukrainian and possibly receiving education in the Hungarian language, said the official .

On October 10 in Budapest announced that it will require a renegotiation of the agreement on Association of Ukraine with the European Union because of the Ukrainian law on education.

In early September, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on education, which actually bans the teaching of any language other than Ukrainian. In particular, in 2018 abolished the teaching of subjects in the languages of national minorities since the fifth grade. From 2020, the education in the languages of national minorities will be eliminated in the lower grades.

According to the census of 2001, Ukraine has 155 thousand Hungarians.
