The soltes urged not to restrict the rights of the Hungarian minority on the territory of Ukraine
Hungary urges Ukraine not to restrict the rights of the Hungarian minority, including the right to dual citizenship.
This was stated by state Secretary of the Ministry of human resources of Hungary Miklos Soltes at a press conference in Kiev on April 21, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“Since we’re talking about two friendly Nations and the Nations that honor the support and development of national minorities, as well as support and promotion of the rights of national minorities, I consider it absolutely natural that the newly adopted legislative acts of Ukraine absolutely is not going to in any way limit the rights which have been acquired by the national minorities,” said Soltes.
However, he added that refers to the issues of the use of the Hungarian language and nationality.
“In a circle issues are the question of education, the use of the native language and the question of dual nationality”, – he said.
30 March, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban on the sidelines of the European people’s party Convention in Malta invited the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to discuss the signing of the agreement on dual citizenship for Hungarians living in Ukraine.
In March, President Poroshenko introduced to the Verkhovna Rada the draft amendments to the law “On citizenship”. According to the document, a person who voluntarily acquired citizenship of a foreign state will be considered subject to the requirements of termination of Ukrainian citizenship.
According to the census of 2001, in Ukraine lives more than 150 thousand Hungarians, most of them in the Transcarpathian region.
